Welcome to St. Francis of Assisi Parish!

The Lord give you peace.

With this greeting, St. Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of our parish community, would greet people who lived in a very conflicted and violent world in 13 th century Italy. It was also the
greeting he give to his brothers, the Franciscan friars, to give to people.

We welcome you to look at our parish’s Website and to see the good things the Lord is doing among us. We are a relatively small community – in numbers. Yet, God has given us a big heart to reach out. We are blessed to have people join us as parishioners and as guests for our Sunday Masses, in English at 11:00 a.m. and in Spanish at 1:30 p.m.

We also welcome you to our corner of the Mississippi Delta. We are blessed to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus as Catholic Christians in this part of the country. We are happy to work with our sisters and brothers of the neighboring Catholic parish, Immaculate Heart of Mary, with the varied other Christian communities in Greenwood, MS and with other people of good will.

Since the late 1940s, Franciscan men and women, friars and Sisters, have worked among the African American community through education and the development of a Catholic parish. Since those humble beginnings, the parish has grown through awareness and the practice of the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, especially by way of Catholic Social Teaching. The concerns of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s continue today in the new millennium. This now includes concerns for recent immigrants to the Mississippi Delta.

So, please explore our Website. And, if you live in our part of the country or are visiting, pleases come and join us for Sunday Mass!

God bless you and your loved ones. May the Lord prosper you in his peace.
